Panasonic Operational Excellence: HR data uploaded to an outside generative AI service

In an HR system project run by Panasonic Operational Excellence and its subsidiary Panasonic Digital, a project member uploaded part of the April 2026 HR system data to an outside generative AI service the company bans. It covered employee numbers, addresses, phone numbers and emails (no names) of about 75,000 employees and 178,000 former employees, and names, addresses, phone numbers and emails of about 81,000 family members registered as emergency contacts, about 334,000 people in total. It was not an outside attack. The company reported it to the Personal Information Protection Commission on September 29 and said the data was deleted and not used for training.
