Sankei Living Shimbun: unauthorized access to its servers

On October 16 unauthorized access by a third party to a website run by Sankei Living Shimbun was found. Names and contact details of users of its web member services (Living Web, City Living Web, Machitto and others, including former members) and of its survey system, stored on its servers, may have leaked; the count was under investigation. The company holds no card data. Some web services were suspended. For Mie Prefecture's relocation seminars, which it ran on contract, 156 applicants' names and emails (optionally addresses and phone numbers) and 75 participants' survey answers were affected. Hiroshima Prefecture said on October 23 that names, addresses, phone numbers and more of 1,470 entries to the summer and autumn gift draws of its public relations magazine may have leaked through the server used by Hiroshima Living Shimbun, the magazine's editor; the prefecture was told six days after the intrusion was found.
