Electronic media holding about 200 surgical-field/specimen images was lost. Some specimen images show slips carrying patient IDs for matching. The hospital says the images do not include faces or other images that readily identify a person on their own, but patient IDs and medical images are present. Image count is distinct from patient count, which is not disclosed. [1]
There was no password protection, so a third party obtaining the media could read it. The media remained missing as of 1 October, but the notice does not give the detection date. Outside removal, leakage and misuse are not confirmed. Identified affected patients are being contacted individually. No cyberattack is stated as the cause. [1]
