Fire and Disaster Management Agency: intrusion into the wartime safety information system, which is stopped

On 5 November Fire and Disaster Management Agency disclosed that a third party had accessed Safety Information System without authorization, as reported by FUJISOFT INCORPORATED, which runs and maintains it. According to the Asahi Shimbun the access took place from 21 to 30 October; the National Cybersecurity Office noticed it, and the agency confirmed it with Fujisoft on 4 November. [1] [2] [3]

The system is used in an armed attack or similar emergency to share residents' safety information gathered at shelters and hospitals between the state and local governments, and to answer enquiries from families. [3] [4]

The agency said no personal data leak has been confirmed, and Fujisoft said it had confirmed there was no leak. According to NHK, no personal data appears to have been on the system at the time. [1] [2] [4]

The service is stopped and cut off from outside access while the scope is examined. Fujisoft is investigating the cause, and according to the Asahi Shimbun no restoration date is in sight. [1] [3]
