What happened
At four post offices in Chiba, Gunma, Yamaguchi and Saitama prefectures, the brokerage ledgers recording investment trust and government bond trades went missing. They hold data on 318 customers from fiscal 2009 to 2015, including names, account numbers, trade details, amounts and issues. [1]
The loss came to light in monitoring of post office operations that Japan Post Bank began in October 2020. Japan Post said the ledgers were most likely discarded by mistake with unneeded papers and planned to explain and apologize to the customers. [1]
