Soken Chemical: ransomware; partner and employee personal data may have leaked

Chemical maker Soken Chemical & Engineering disclosed on 10 January 2024 that files on some of its servers had been encrypted by ransomware. It confirmed the encryption on 9 January and shut down file servers and some systems, which affected production and shipping of some products at the company and its subsidiary Soken Tecnix. Its third report on 5 March confirmed that some data about the subsidiary had leaked, and its fourth report on 14 June said that, after an outside investigator told it on 10 May, it found trade data on about 6,505 business partners and personal data on about 16,241 people from the company, and trade data on about 955 partners and personal data on about 3,167 people from the subsidiary, may have leaked. The personal data covers partner contacts' names, companies and business contact details, and employees' (including former employees') names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, basic pension numbers and more. The affected systems were retired and it now runs on a new network.
