What happened

  1. A worker at the home nursing station followed a fake warning on a PC used for web browsing. It later emerged that a third party may have seen the contents of that PC and the worker's own phone. [1]

  2. The hospital disclosed it. It has reported to the Personal Information Protection Commission. [1]

Impact

253 people in all. Against hospital rules, personal data that should not have been there was stored on these devices. No viewing or copying has been confirmed yet, and a specialist firm is investigating. [1]

  • 194 home nursing patients: names, ward of residence and a disaster-readiness score of their condition (medical dependency, cognitive state, care level, emergency transport method and more) [1]
  • 14 staff of partner medical and care providers: workplace, name and fax number [1]
  • 12 board members as of 2018: names, titles, birth dates, addresses and phone numbers [1]
  • 33 home nursing station staff: names, phone numbers and more [1]

The PC was not connected to the electronic medical record systems, and patient care is not affected. My Number, bank and card data are not included. [1]

Response

Affected people are being contacted one by one. All staff will be trained on support scams, and the rules on personal data on browsing PCs will be enforced. [1]
